In 2019, Joanna opened Monarca Salon Space in Elgin, IL because she believed women deserve a place to build something of their own and be supported while they do it.
She named it after the monarch butterfly, a symbol from her hometown of Morelia, Michoacan. A butterfly that never stops moving forward.
Today, Monarca is home to a group of independent Latina stylists who run their own businesses, lift each other up, and prove you do not have to choose between independence and community. A safe space for women to grow, on their own terms, together.
